US Immigration Service Considers Genealogy Program

The United States is a country that was built by immigrants. The US Immigration Service, the holder of the official historical records of the arrival and naturalization of millions of immigrants as far back as the late 1800’s is now for the first time considering a genealogy program to allow people to gain access to family files and information. Previously, people could only gain access to these records by a Freedom of Information Act request. Read the government announcement of the request for comment on the program when it was launched two years ago.

You can find more information by accessing the US Citizenship and Immigration website at www.uscis.gov and searching under 'genealogy'.
